The Kingsgrove development was filled with a chorus of festive cheer on the evening of Thursday 30th November. For the third year in a row, a lively crowd of residents gathered together by the Christmas tree in the Public Square to sing Christmas carols led by the Wantage Silver Band.
Wantage Primary Academy opened the carol singing with a special performance put on by the children’s choir. Attendees were treated to a selection of delicious mulled wine and mince pies to inspire the Christmas spirit, supported with Nativity readings recited by members of the community, including the Leader of Wantage Community Church, Neil Townsend.
To add to the jolly evening, Santa Claus made an early appearance, handing out sweets t from a sack specially crafted by the Wantage & Grove Quilting Society. As well as this, Kingsgrove Café was open late to provide the 200 residents with hot drinks and pastries.
The event was organised collaboratively by Wantage Community Church, St. Modwen and Vale of White Horse District Council; and Kingsgrove managing agents Preim who organised the focal point of the event – the Christmas tree.
Paul Gander, Pastor at Wantage Community Church, said, “It was our third Christmas Tree Light switch on Kingsgrove and the event continues to grow year on year. The Wantage Primary Academy Choir stole the show with their angelic voices ringing out into the cold evening as we started the Christmas activities. We look forward to next year and repeating this new tradition at Kingsgrove!”
