St. Modwen held a community event for International Women’s Day on 8th March 2023, centred around the theme of Embracing Equity. Guest speakers chatted about their experiences, the need to live in a fair world, discussing their career paths and the challenges of a work-life balance.
Joanne, a Wantage local and owner of several businesses, including the Kingsgrove Café, provided plenty of delicious cakes and coffee. Dinny Shaw, Strategic Land Head of Planning at St. Modwen and Anne Richardson, Community Development Officer at Vale District Council organised the meet-up. Dinny spoke about her work at St. Modwen, and enjoyed hearing from Karen Tolley, the Economic Development Lead at Vale District Council and Shirley Cooper from the St. Modwen sales office.
While a smaller group than anticipated due to the unexpected snow, the group provided a variety of perspectives and life experiences to draw upon, and creating a particularly important educational experience for the young boys who came along. It was also a good social event for Kingsgrove residents to get to meet new neighbours and learn more about each other’s life journeys.
Everyone there was asked to write a personal pledge to help forge women’s equality. The team loved seeing that the responses from the children were centred around making society fairer so women are treated equally in all aspects, showing that the discussions made an impact and highlighted a cause for them to be conscious about as they grow into young adults.
This event was one of many that have been organised to bring the Kingsgrove community closer together, celebrating the women of the world and raising awareness of an important social cause. St Modwen places the community at the heart of the work that it does and encourages community-led events at its developments to boost the new neighbourhood, and would like to issue a big thank you to those who came along.
